1. The first project that shows my growth is the water bottle drawing we did. I created the piece with pencil use lines of different thicknesses. We were told not to use value, so I struggled using just line to make the drawing appear less flat. I also struggled with the top of the water bottle and getting the shape right. During this creation, I learned if you use a dark line on the bottom it shows depth and shadow in the drawing. In the future, I will use line in drawings to make them look realistic. The second project that shows my growth is the eye drawing. I created this piece first with pencil, and then with colored pencil. I struggled at first getting the shape of the eye right. It was always too small and the pupil looked too big. I learned the correct process to use to make a realistic eye shape. I also struggled with the eyelashes and making them look fake. I learned to use short and fast pencil strokes to make them look good. I learned to use dark lines around the eye to make it pop. In the future, I will use colored pencil to create detailed eyes.
2. As an artist, I believe my strengths are value drawings and watercolor painting. I am good at using grey scale to shade different areas of a drawing to make it appear 3D and have depth. I learned to make the transition between light and dark shading gradual instead of drastic. Watercolor is easy to blend and the colors always look good. I am good at using the right amount of water with the paint. My weaknesses are working with pen and ink and painting with acrylic. Pen and ink was hard for me because the quills were not easy to work with. I struggled to get the lines as thick or thin as I wanted them. Acrylic painting was hard for me because it showed up very strong on paper in contrast to water color. It was harder to create value with acrylic.
3. A piece I struggled with was the pen and ink fish. I struggled with both motivation and technique during this process. When the idea was presented to us, I knew I would not enjoy it due to the fact we were working with quills and we couldn't use color. At first, I chose a hard fish so I struggled with the shape. I overcame this by changing it a few times until I finally got it right and got it to look like my reference. I then struggled with the cross hatching to look good and like it had value. I overcame this by practicing on a spectate sheet of paper and transferring it to my fish. I also looked at my reference to make sure the value matched. If given the assignment again, I would choose a different fish and take my time with cross hatching.
4. My favorite piece in Art 2 was the clown as scream painting. I created it first as a pencil value drawing, then added a wash layer with watered acrylic and went over it with acrylic paint. This piece is my favorite because I loved the idea as soon as o thought of it and I took a lot of time and effort in the process. This piece shows that I am a creative artist who likes to use a lot of color. I think this piece is better than m other work because I paid very close attention to detail and I didn't rush as i tended to do with other projects. I believe the value I used in the clowns body and the balloons makes it good. I also like how the green color contrasts with the red.
